THE REPORT

A record turnout for our first regional final of season 6.1 was hopefully a sign of things to come over the next few weeks. A few changes were introduced to our regional final structure which where experienced in Aberdeen for the first time. The major change being the winner of the regional final now wins a package into our Vegas 100 National Final next year instead of the £500 cash. So £500 would now be shared between 2nd to 8th place. Semi final qualification was also up for grabs as we introduce another way of qualifying for Vegas. 2nd-4th positions would now win a seat into this prestigious event later in the year.

Our North Scotland final also saw the return of one of our Vegas 9 players from earlier in the month, Richard Arnott. Richard will have to wait a little longer though to book his place on next years flight as he could only manage 20th position on the day, however, he was the Imperial Bar’s top performer on the day.

THE FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: Brian Walker – Scotia Bar, Aberdeen (105500)
Seat 2: George Robertson – Mither Tap, Aberdeen (20500)
Seat 3: Declan Mitchell – Cooperage, Elgin (77000)
Seat 4: Gregory Millar – Granary, Elgin (16000)
Seat 5: Jonathan Guest – Butchers Arms, Aberdeen (7000)
Seat 6: Douglas Smith – Auctioneers, Inverness (34000)
Seat 7: Andrew Hilton – Argyll Hotel, Ullapool (35000)
Seat 8: Scott Wilson – Kitty Brewster, Aberdeen (30000)
Seat 9: Terry Scott – Kitty Brewster, Aberdeen (39000)
Seat 10: Brian Jones – Chieftain Hotel, Inverness (23000)

As the final table began all 10 players had Vegas on their mind in what has now become quite a large heads-up bubble. Jonathan Guest was the first player to hit the rail as his 7000 chips soon deserted him. Brian Jones then went in 9th as the cash bubble burst. Our cash winners were Terry Scott in 8th, George Robertson in 7th, Douglas Smith in 6th, Andrew Hilton in 5th which in turn gave our remaining players a seat into our semi finals. Our 4th placed finisher was Scott Wilson with Declan Mitchell leaving the tournament in 3rd. This brought the all improtant heads-up match between Gregory Millar and Brian Walker. The final hand saw Brian with the best of things holding A-Q to Gregory’s K-6. A flop of K-4-J favoured Gregory but gave Brian straight outs. The turn was a brick 7 and when the river gave Gregory two pair, Brian was down and out as we had our second Vegas 100 Finalist in the form of Gregory Millar from the Granary in Elgin!
