Regular Redtooth Poker player Paul Pitchford from the Travellers Rest, Sutton In Ashfield stood strong at the APAT Pot Limit Omaha Championship where he defeated 82 other Omaha enthusiasts.  Paul also won £1,300 and a gold medal for his troubles!!!

I caught up with my friend Paul after his win and here’s what he had to say…….

“This was my first PLO live tournament and I went into it looking for experience in the live game as apposed to playing online.

I made a steady start to the day and felt very comfortable until I lost a crucial hand where I had a wrap and a flush draw which was ultimately about 22 outs vs a flopped set. Unfortunately my opponents hand held up and I lost the hand leaving me pretty short stacked. I managed to hang on until I quadrupled up and then won a big pot with a full house vs the nut flush. This gave me a good final table stack. The final table was a dream really. I had a good advantage over my opponents as it seemed I had played PLO more than all but 2 players. Add this to me running well in the final and it all came together and I won the event as an alternate.

Eventually I decided to play the £100NLH main event as an alternate again and managed to finish day 1b as chip leader. I went into day 2 well stacked but lost a deciding hand early as my opponent out flopped my 2 pair with a flopped straight!I managed to survive the day finishing on the bubble for the final table in 10th. This was good enough to win player of the series though, an achievement I’m very proud of!”
