The Loose Cannon Club was again the host for the London regional final on Sunday 7th June. The atmosphere was pretty tense at the start of the tournament but that soon changed when the first two players were knocked out in the same hand. Both Jason Elphick and Chris Elliott had their high pairs beaten when another player hit a straight on the flop, unlucky guys. The final table became quite a battle with everyone fighting to be the champion. A fierce heads up between Doug Sharp of Bar Malden, Surrey and Drew Hunt of Goose, Beckenham ensued and after several nail biting hands Drew won the tournament with his Ace high beating Doug’s King high.

Going into the final table, Sean was the chip leader with 99,000 chips shortly followed by Craig Poole of the Broadwater, Worthing who had 94,000 chips. An excellent turnout at Bramall Lane, as always, for the South Yorkshire Final saw Joe Willock of the Cock & Magpie, Chesterfield crowned South Yorkshire champion. Going into the final table Joe had just 54,000 chips and managed to clinch the title from Gavin Jackson of the Green Tree Inn, Scunthorpe who had a staggering 147,000 chips starting the final table. Joe went in on the final hand with 5 6 against Gavin’s K Q. The flop revealed the winning hand when 6 9 5 came out and although there was still a chance Gavin could snatch the win the turn delivered 10 and the river 7 giving Joe the title. A special mention goes to our National Champion, Brett Shufflebottom, who was knocked out 7th, the nerves and pressure must have been too much for him.

It was all about 8’s on the final table at the Central England regional final held at MK Dons football club. There was a nail biting hand between Simon Chambers of the Stags Head, Great Doddington and Daniel Parsons of the Bell, Aylesbury. Simon had A K in his hand against Daniels’ A 8 the flop came out as 8 6 K and Simon thought he had clinched it but the river delivered another 8, leaving Daniel to fight it out for the championship with Matt Welch of the Burnt Oak, Milton Keynes. The final hand had Daniel with Q 9 in his hand and J 8 for Matt. No one could call this hand would end the tournament when the flop and the turn delivered 3 4 6 5.
